The shield is an important implement of warfare of pre-colonial Filipino warriors. The general term for shield in the Philippines is “kalasag” but given the ethnic diversity of the country, it is also known by other names. Rectangular shields with elaborate projections are more commonly associated with the highland tribes of northern Philippines.
